Since May the 7th, the new Decree (Decree 21/2017) has been in force that regulates the activity of recreational charter boats in the Balearic Islands, published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands.
The new Decree 21/2017 is a further step in the improvement and simplification of charter activity, as it applies to all recreational craft and Spanish vessels registered in the sixth list (the comercial list), such as those registered in the Special Register of the Canary Islands and in any maritime register of the European Union destined to the charter activity in the Balearic Islands, and substitutes the requirement of the previous administrative authorization that was required by the previous regulation for the exercise of the activity, by a simple responsible declaration by means of the presentation of a series of documents before the General Directorate of Ports and Airports of the Balearic Government.
Object of the new Decree is to increase the activity of recreational charter boats in the Balearic Islands, which already occupies the first position of the nautical Spanish charter market – with a 26% share – and to restrain professional intrusiveness, trough contemplating the creation of the Balear Registry of charter pleasure boats and Yacht, which operators and users can access to consult if the company that offers their charter services is regularized to perform this activity in the Balearic Islands.
